Rollergirl, instead of drinking lots of water, drink a lot of honey-lemon-ginger tea.
(simmer slices of ginger and lemons in water for 15ish minutes) If you are using the peel, make sure you buy organic lemons.
I ate really well yesterday:
-rye with hummus
-banana
-burrito wrap thing with refried beans, non dairy sour cream (amazingly good) and veggies
-steamed almond soy
-baked tofu
-a whole wheat pita with hummus (fuc.king addicted to hummus)
-grapefruit
-1.5 glasses of wine
-----------------------
so far today I have had :
-greens+water
-banana
-big hunk of baked tofu
-rye + hummus
-half a tortilla shell with peanut sauce...
-double americano
-more tofue
-apple
-burrito
-jr whopper
-1/2 chocolate croissant
-gingerbread latte
-3/4 chocolate creamcheese muffin

good idea, Petra. i'm a huge ginger tea fan. and it does a great job of burning out the throat. never though of adding lemon though. cool.
i'll check those out, OceanB. thanks. you mention them as preventatives - are they any good at speeding up the immune system once the first sneezes hit?

To be honest, I'm not too sure, Roller. CoQ10 is an all-round healthy supplement, although quite pricy. It boosts the immune-system and has many other beneficial factors. Ginseng I assume would help you out right now. Phyto-supportives and CoQ10 may be more on the long run.

"Most must resort to an iron self-discipline bolstered by a hefty dose of superiority over those who eat junk food. Over time, what to eat, how much, and the consequences of dietary indiscretion come to occupy a greater and greater proportion of the orthorexic's day. "
you know what.... this is so me. It bothers me that I am so obsessed with food. I wish I didn't fixate on it so much. It's even gotten to the point where I don't think I can date someone with "poor" eating habits (unless I think I can change them).

Roller, for your immune system, throw chopped garlic in your lemon ginger tea. It tastes great and it will fight off the cold.

my boyfriend forces me to gargle with warm water and fresh pressed garlic whenever i have a cold. it does work wonders, but i'm sure he regrets it when he climbs into bed. : /
ps: cold update - managing to keep it at bay. hasn't gotten any worse than two days ago, but not much better either. which is fine - i can handle it at it's current state. *knocking on wood and downing more supplements*
leaving tonight for a ski trip to mt. washington this weekend. wish me luck. i may very well just end up in bed monday morning, but as long as i get some good snowboarding in before then... !

My Chinese-Canadian ex-gf always made me a tea of freshly grated ginger in boiling water to cure my cold, and I was amazed that it always worked, and fast too.
Plus it is kind of tasty.
*edit* whoops I see that ginger tea has already been covered.
