You are so cool it's ridiculous.
If you want to hear an interesting take on "Crystal", d/l the Lee Coombs remix.
Cheers,
Dave

I stopped tuning into Bernard after he
did that song for World Cup... and then
I heard Crystal and I was like.. huh...
Kinda like U2 when they did Zooropa.
I still have my collection of over 30 NO
vinyl's including a UK Virgin Vinyl release
of Movement. Too bad I sold my decks
in 94'... I burned a CD of both Peel sessions
and that Movement disc if anyone is interested.

Carmanah... if you're a big New Order/Joy Division fan... go rent 24 Hour Party People. They'll have it at Rogers Video. It's basically the story of the Manchester music scene from that era and there's a lot of focus on them.

Zooropa rocks, I actually started paying more attention to U2 when it came out because they went off the deep end a bit. That album never would have been made if not for New Order influence. I've got an album called "substance" hanging around and it never gets old.
What do you guys think the most influential bands of our time are?
I'd say:
1Beatles
2Ramones
3Clash
4Nirvana
5U2
6New Order

Interesting that you'd rank The Ramones and The Clash up so high. I would agree that they are two of the greatest bands of all time... but influential... yeah, maybe. I think Led Zeppelin would be in there too though.

No, not yet... but I will, I'm sure.
Zooropa is one of my favourite U2 albums too btw. I guess that's not surprising since I really got into U2 in 1993. Ironically, New Order's "Regret" was released around the same time - and that was my first introduction to them. (Keeping in mind, I was 12 at the time). I really like Regret *and* Zooropa for their nostalgic qualities they have in my life.
Back to New Order - Substance indeed is an album one cannot tire from!

New Order is cool and all but The Rapture is where it's at.

Okay, here's my take: the new New Order, titled Waiting for the Siren's Call, is crap. Mind you, I have only heard it four or five times, and sometimes the best records take a long time. But so far, nothing.
Which is not to say that all NEW New Order is bad. Actually, the previous record, Get Ready, is surprisingly decent for an increasingly geriatric outfit. I recommend it.
Otherwise, just pick up the various collaborations Bernhard Sumner does, like with the Chemical Brothers, Electronic, etc.

And on another note: if you want to hear a New Order song interpreted exquisitely, check out what Moby does with Temptation on his new record Hotel.
