ok, you could pay more, but if you are after salicylic acid you don't need too. how many masks can you do with 500 asprin tablets? any idea of the % salicylic acid the mask is?

I only need 3 tablets to cover my face... so I can do over 160 masks with one bottle. And as far as I know aspirin is acetylsalicylic acid, which turns into salicylic acid once ingested. I would think that pure aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) would be a lot more concentrated than any other face mask.

once i tried to make a salicylic acid bubble bath and i had an allergic reaction, my foreskin swelled up. at first i thought i had an std or something. it was kind of scary, but it did make that week more exciting than usual.

Has anyone found this helps their blackheads? I work in a deli so I have more than I did 6 months ago when I started. How long did you use the mask before you noticed a difference?

The first time you use it, the skin purges a little...but nothing out of the ordinary.
After the second and third time, the skin looks clearer and it really does help with blackheads.
The results are cumulative and not just temporary. So if you keep a regular routine of it....you won't need to do it as often to keep your skin clear.
*remember to open up the pores with steam or a really warm washcloth before applying the mask

Holy BUMP! This thread made me try it back in the day, and I actually liked it. I think I only used it a few times, but my skin felt great.

I rushed to the pharmacy straight after stumbling upon this thread.
I have the mask on my face now. I used 5 uncoated aspirin tablets, several drops of hot water, and 2 drops of honey (recommended by other website, supposedly provide moisturisation). I'll let you know how it goes in 20 minutes or so...
...25 minutes later...
As suggested, I scrubbed as I washed the mask off. I could feel that my skin is smoother as I rinsed. However, it feels itchy, VERY itchy. As I pat my face dry and looked at the mirror, my face is extremely red, I mean boiled-lobster-red! (this had never ever happened before, not even after I scrubbed). I don't know if I'm one of those people that do not react well to salicylic acid or not, never used any before. Regardless, my skin texture is amazing!!! I applied some astringent to soothe the itchiness, I'll let you know how it goes shortly...
...60 minutes later...
The redness had dissapeared, I'm back to my regular complexion. Yaaay!!! It had become very very smooth and even. I will try again, though (in spite of the freaky itchiness and redness). I wonder if I should just use my Aesop moisturiser instead of honey. (Can't use Cetaphil, tried it as a face wash months ago, doesn't agree with my skin)
I'll keep you posted on the progress.

I have a question, my skin isn't prone to acne or breakouts and is already pretty nice to begin with. I do have some very small blackheads around my nose...would this aspirin mask benefit me at all? From what I'm gathering, it seems to be more for people with blemished skin...

I have another question! I just decided to get back into the aspirin mask, so I bought 500 pills and ground them up in a food processor (works fast but holy hell did I breathe in a lot of aspirin dust!) Anyway, I want to know if I can just pre-add the water and honey and keep it in a big bottle, so I don't have to make the concoction from scratch each time (messy!) Or will the honey neutralize the acid in the aspirin if it sits around like that?

Karm: It should work for you as well. Treble recently tried it and she seems to have pretty good skin except for a few troubled spots..worked for her.
Bijou: Instead of putting it in the food processor, next time dump the pills in a bowl, wet the pills but pour out any excess water. Let it sit, and the pills will crumble. Let them sit over night and gently stir it with a spoon to break the pills up. When you leave it over night, the water evaporates but the pills are crumbly but not too fine....perfect for adding to your cleanser for a scrub or adding to the honey.
I don't even make the mask in a bowl anymore. I just squeeze a quarter size squirt of the spectrol jel on my palm, then sprinkle some of the aspirin powder on it. Then mix with my fingers and apply it.
Premade batches of aspirin will eventually go bad. Depending on how often you use it, I would not suggest making more than a week's worth of it.

I'll have to figure out a way to do away with the 1 kg jar of honey sitting on my bathroom sink then. It's so messy! If only they made honey in squeeze tubes. But I find using honey really is superior to using just aspirin + water.

You could go to London Drugs/Superstore/the dollar store and buy those travel bottles that you can fill up with your own shampoo. Those bottles would work for the honey.

I use the asprin paste with vitamin E oil on my piercings if they are angry. Works like a charm....maybe I should start using it on my breakouts as well.

Go for it, Karm. I'm like you... relatively flawless skin with a few blackheads around the nose. It works great for those.

Ok tried it just now with generic aspirin. I crushed up 3 tablets and mixed it in with a calming face mask I bought. I applied it all over the face and let it sit on while I had a bath. Near the end it was getting quite itchy so I washed it off with cold water and rubbed gently, but that really irritated somehow. Maybe it was too much exfoliation...
Once I washed it all off, I noticed skin sensitivity. It was tingling a bit and I noticed some redness, but not like harsh red. It did feel strange though. Is that what it's supposed to do? Maybe it was the mask, though, as I've never used this one before...
I followed up with an alcohol-free toner to calm my skin down and applied a nighttime moisturzing face cream. My skin feels really soft but I haven't noticed like a huge WOW difference. I think I'll have to do this a few more times to see if there is any effect.
How many timed did you ladies try it before you noticed "something". I'm not even sure what it's supposed to do. I would like to see the small blackheads around my nose disappear...
Maybe I will try it with honey next time, although the thought of something so sticky on my face doesn't really appeal to me at all.

I wouldn't combine it with another mask.
Water or gentle gel cleanser is best.

Yeah Karm.. just use a Cetaphil type cleaser as a mix and instead of crushing the pills let them sit for a minute in a tiny bit of water. I just put a few drops of warm water on the pills in my hand, add a squirt of cetaphil, mix and apply.

When you mix it with a few drops of honey and a drop of water, it's not really sticky at all. In fact, I find the honey just holds the paste together better than water. When I use just water, it dries out too fast and falls off my face. Honey is a natural humectant though, so it keeps the mask moist and also counteracts the drying effect the aspirin can have on your skin.
I think I like it most because it makes my skin soft. I notice it helps a bit with breakouts, but I haven't noticed any blackhead disappearance unfortunately.
I just bought a little bottle to put the honey in.. thanks Tempt!
