All too often I hear ppl say that they want to achieve something but then dont dont do what they need to do to achieve it.
Is it because they dont set proper goals or dont plan out what they need to do (so they never know where to start)? I dont know.
If you want to achieve something and it is important to you then go freaking do it. Put all your energy into getting what you want. At the same time its important to set realistic goals.
When setting goals you need to plan out exactly what you need to do in order to achieve what you want. Then from that set short term and long term goals. Nobody wants to work for a couple years at something without achieving anything. By setting yourself short term goals you get the reward of achieving something you set out to do. It might not be huge but it should still make you feel good that you reached one of your goals. Go treat yourself to something in celebration you deserve it.
Once you achieve one of your short term goals look at your progress. Look at what went right and what could have been impoved upon. In basically everything in life their is something to be learned.

Another thing is when you decide you want to do something jump right in and do it. Dont make excuses and hold off. The longer you wait the more excuses you will make to why you cant do it ("Oh I'll start doing it next week"wink.. no no you wont.. you will figure out what you need to do tonight and tommorow is gonna be the start of the "new you"... if you wait till next week you will have made 100 excuses why you cant start and and you will never achieve anything.

Now my head just went blank. If I can think of anything to add I'll add it.

so true.

You can psych yourself up as quickly as you can psych yourself out.

i always say "this is my last piece of cake, my diet starts monday!"
but then it never starts. I read somewhere that saying things like that is setting yourself up for failure. It needs to stop NOW.

and if you fall off the bandwagon for a day, make sure you start right back up again and not use that as an excuse to stop working out/eating right, etc. for a week. I've been guilty of that in the past.
