As far as I know, you need itunes to upload to your ipod (at least thats what I've always used, and dragging and droppign doesn't work because then it just gets put onto the HD as stored data)
But you can download itunes from Apples website......

Yeah I have a pod... and yes you do need itunes... but seriously i think its the best mp3 software on the market.... and its free. I warn you once you use an ipod you will never go back to burning cd's. I'm sure i have paid for my ipod just from not having to burn a new cd ever couple of days... all i do is drop the pod into the dock and boom all the songs I have downloaded in the past and any playlist I have created are automatically added to it.

iPods are for pedestrian trendwhores. there are other (better) products out there.

uh ya, ipods have a laser engraved serial number on the back, as well as sometimes the persons name if they felt like paying the extra 15 bucks.. call applecare or email apple and they can get it back to the person. When you purchase an ipod, that number goes into apple, as well as you use that number to register it so if something goes wrong you can get warranty. On a 40 gig...hmmm, $600 electronic item, your probably gonna have it registered.
If you want to keep it and let karma do its work... go to radioshack..you can get cheapo generic stuff for it, the firewire/iconnect/power cord is $9.99(better than buying a real apple /belkin product for like $50+) and download itunes from mac.com, throw on some headphones and youre good to go.

man it was such a hassle getting this POD up and running. i had to buy 2 different adapters, 1 adapter cable and now i have to replace my usb port and get usb 2.0 instead of regular usb b/c IPOD apparently isn't compatible with just regular usb and needs a high speed connection. **** this is a pain in the ass...although it was worse when i din't have a car
