No to this idea. Clarkson should donate her own trohpy so women have a sustainable championship. It should start out like the Stanley Cup did since there is no league strong enough to host such a Cup, as a challenge Cup.

I agree with pretty much everything Grapes said. This whole idea is stupid.

On top of that, if these chicks want to have their own game for some cup, then great. But they should know that -

A) It's NOT going to be for the Stanley Cup
B) I'm going to continue not caring about women's hockey like I always have

The Stanley Cup should not be awarded this year at all. Not to a team of horse-faced chicks from Canada or the US who think that people care about watching them play. Not to some two bit beer league team. Some people in this country who think the Stanley Cup has to be awarded like this are just fXcked in the head and aren't real hockey fans.

I'd pay good money too see that....highly unlikely

We play division 1 men's league. Mostly ex junior players. Wickenhieser is the only player on team canada that would not be injured after the first period. Please name some players on the women's canadian roster that should/could play junior hockey. Real hockey. Men's hockey.

^ dOOd, he said his beer league team could beat them...you should all learn how to read, and try and take things in context of what was said...I could twist everyones words around if I wanted...if you honestly think that Mens hockey is the only real hockey...good on you...I just choose not to live in the stone age and fall into the male category as a chovanist pig.

I think after this past season the, oh so precious, Stanley cup , has lost a bit of it's glory, and the NHL as a whole will have lost some of their own dignity and respect from thousands of people.

None of you really looked at what I was saying and simply jumped the gun and turned it into a men are better than wemon argument. Childish really.

Jake-D cant even come up with his own burns, he has to let someone come up with them, and a pretty bad one none the less

No, not childish. It's pretty much the whole argument.

Here, I'll break it down for you in easy to understand point form:

Fact: Men are significantly better at sports than women.
Opinion that might as well be fact: The Stanley Cup is a revered trophy which should ONLY be awarded to hockey players of the highest calibre in the world.

Therefore: Women should not be allowed to compete for the Stanley Cup.

You accuse other people of living in the Stone Age.. when was the last time anyone got called a "chauvanist"?? 15 years ago? The PC movement hasn't been relevant in ages.

K, enough bile.... A conversation with a good friend last night.. she was saying that this year, the Stanley Cup should have a blank space where the 2004-2005 winner would have been. If the NHL is back next year (we can safely assume that, right? ... right???).. then start it up again in the next notch, but leave this space blank as a reminder of the stain this whole mess has left on the game.

Of course the NHL won't do this... oh well.

I think this notion is absolute bull sh!t. The Stanley Cup was never meant for anything other than the NHL. Womens hockey needs to establish it's own standard and creditial for excellence.

I agree that it's not right to give the Stanley Cup to a women's team. But....i think it is bull**** that some of you think that women's hockey isn't good enough to play for it. Have you any of you guys ever played against our women's national team or anything even close to that? I am guessing NOT!
And Grapes...your even willing to play the "men are better at sports" card?
I have played sports my entire life and just because I am a chick doesn't mean that you are automatically a better player then I am.
I am not pushing for this to be a huge competition between men and women but i think that women's hockey deserves more respect then you are giving it. angry

You're guessing wrong. I played against players on the womens national team when they tried to try out for junior squads. They got embarrassed.

Can I just take this moment to point out that the Canadian Women's national team's performance in the 2002 Winter Olympics, particularly in the gold medal game, was far and away one of the best moments of Canadian Olympic history? That team had to play not only against a bitter rival in the Americans, but also a ref who inexplicably saw fit to saddle them with something like 15 penalties against USA's 3 or 4.. and they still pulled it out.

Just in case anyone was starting to think I was about to exclaim that a woman's place is in the kitchen.
