i've been a rogers cell phone subscriber since 1995. in that time i've seen my cell phone bill rise from just under $30/month to about $60-65/month now. i get:

- unlimited weeknights from 6 pm to 7 am
- unlimited weekends (friday 6 pm to monday 7 am)
- 100 free anytime minutes
- enhanced voicemail (whatever that it)
- 40% off long distance
- text messaging
- i'm sure i get other features but those ^ are the only ones i care about

my contract is expiring this month and i don't necessarily want to leave rogers... but does anyone know of any cheaper plans? i don't mind signing on to a 2-year contract (i've always renewed 2 years at a time and i'm okay with that). i just hate paying $60-65/month on a phone bill.

advice anyone? any cell phone reps on here?

^ does that include taxes, CRTC charges, etc.? are there other features included (ie. voicemail and text messaging)?

also, what's the service like? i've heard horror stories from some FIDO users.

Arrrghhhh!! I just got off the phone with FIDO - what part of "I'D LIKE TO CANCEL MY ACCOUNT" did they not understand??!!! That was my only intention when I called them but they proceeded to keep me on the phone for almost 35-minutes (majority of the time on hold listening to awful elevator music) only to be passed on to 3-different agents who all attempted to convince me to keep my account by offering me a new phone & plan etc.... it was fun while it lasted Fido but it's time to let go.

&@#$% bang head

no text and no vm and no caller id

Then it's really no cheaper than Rogers. He already said that VM and text are features he needs so to add those he'll be right back at what he's paying now. blank stare

^^ Is your plan Talk 45? It's not available anymore....

Talk 40 Plus is an awesome plan. 350 Daytime minutes, unlimited Evenings & Weekends after 8 ($5 if you want to start it at 6), voice mail 3, conference calling and call waiting. Canada LD is .25c and USA is .50c. $40/month.

Hoops sounds like you have the exact same plan as me and mine expires at the end of this month as well.

And I was also looking for something a bit cheaper but don't really want to change my number etc. etc.

^ yeah, i've had the same number for 10 years now. i don't feel like changing it... but i also don't want to pay that much for a cell phone plan.

maybe i will pose as a health care worker. hehe. tongue
