yeah my knees always feel.. off.. after i finish a good workout on the treadmill. i'm hoping it's just my crappy shoes though, or my body not being used to it. :\

If your feet go nump on the eliptic its probably because you are on your toes the whole time. When you run your feet normally go heel then toe but on the eliptic its way to easy to do it on your toes.

Good to know! yes

The best way to lose pounds quickly is to do interval training. I have used the treadmill and the elliptical for that. It boosts metabolism. For example, warm up for 10, run for one or two, walk for one or two, and as you get your endurance up decrease the walking time to maybe, 30 seconds. Do that for as long as you can then cooldown. Do that 3-4 times a week or 30-60 minutes. I lost like 10lbs in two weeks.

^ thats exactly what i do.

and... just for your guy's information.. a GREAT thing to do is to go to a running store.. no matter what kind of cardio you do it's always good to get a pair of shoes that fit your foot.. not just a pair that look cute and go with your gym attire.. lol

i bought Mizunos.. probably THE best shoes i've ever owned... i have bad knees and my knees don't hurt, i don't get shin splints anymore.. it makes running a whole lot easier on my joints.

^ the 1st person i've ever heard that from... have you checked in w/ a doc of sorts? pyhsio or podiatrist? I'm serious.. i have horrible knees, & the one consistent cardio machine that stresses them the least has to be the elliptical.. which are known to be the most benificial to those who have horrible knee/ ankle issues.

you also might want to check the positioning of your feet on the elliptical.. when i 1st started using it, i noticed that my toes were pointing in, which was a very uncomfortable way of doing it... .

for leannes big Q....
ok, ANYONE WHO has noticed quite a difference in there body with a certain type of cardio.. post damnit tongue

recumbant bike. When my foot came outta the cast late last summer, the only machine i felt stable on was a recumbant bike. The positioning of the body, & emphasis on the quads was very noticable, even on the 1st session. When i hit the interval or x-country styles, i do tend to notice the anaerobic part mainly in the quads. Phyiscally, my quads are now more developed, which means i have more muscle balance to offset my patella femural syndrome, which means no knee brace. big grin

Elliptical- by far the easiest on the knees. It also incorporates all 4 levers... my hands are just as productive as my legs. I love the aspect of being able to back-pedal...this has totally been noticed on the soccer feild, even in my 1st game back, in november- after 3 mths of rigourous rehab- all my teammates said i'm more mobile & flexible than ever, & the fact that i play D most of the time, i'm rarely out of speed back-pedalling when a forward is coming at me full steam. My Calves love the elliptical, & are now more defined.

Bike riding - mind you I find i bulks up my legs

Eliptical - works pretty good, makes my feet go numb

Rowing machine - great upper body workout and you still are burning ALOT of calories

AEROBICS AND DANCING in love

^If you're finding you get a better upper body workout than lower body workout from the rowing machine, you might be doing it wrong- if you look at rower's bodies, they have massive legs, and smaller upper bodies. ( Should go press legs down, then lean back from hips then follow in with arms, then back out with arms, tilt forward with hips and then legs compress).
smile

I have just started running on the treadmil for 15-20 minutes straight.
I was previously doing alternating run/walk or just inclined walk. I feel like i've made a much bigger achievement by running rather than biking etc.

^Healthy eating is a huge component of it...you really have to incorporate both exercise and smart food decisions to make a big difference...

Making exercise a conscious lifestyle choice is the healthiest thing you can do for yourself....

yeah i'm finding that keeping my diet clean is doing more than any amount of training could do.. so combining the two is a deadly combo.
that and layin off the booze.. hehe

I noticed that the more I eat, the better I feel about myself and is a reason to get new suits cause the old ones just don't fit like they used to. I EAT cause I'm unhappy, and UNHAPPY that I EAT....HAHAHAHAHA
The elliptical was fun but wasn't coordinated enough to stay on the machine.. big grin

You don't have to do alot of cardio to lose weight.

Weight training is actually a better route (for those of us who are not extremely over weight) and you will see results sooner. Too many women are CARDIO queens and tend to plateau in their work out routines because they do not combind it with a proper weight lifting program.

10min warm up

25-30 min weight train

20-25min of cardio after your weights. Actually once you have done your weights you can do cardio until your blue in the face if you want to.

I once weighed 145 pounds at 5'2 blank stare

I lost 24 pounds in 35 days by cutting out all pop in my diet and following a weight training routine given to me by a professional. Once I saw results I started to believe what my trainer had been telling me all along - WEIGHT TRAINING WILL NOT MAKE YOU BULKY!

Since then I have become a trainer/instructor myself (not that I am currently using it) because I am proof that going to the gym & eating healthy most of the time will pay off in success.

Oh and it is always good to switch up your routine as well so your body doesnt get use to it smile

I added spinning into my current routine and noticed a difference in my legs after 2 weeks of doing it 3 times a week (45min)! (with my weight training of course - spinning was my cardio)

^ for both of you 2..

could the height gains be in relation to improved posture from working out? i know we do tend to slouch when unhealthy...

combining the two will actually aid both exercises...your weight training will strengthen the muscles you need to run/walk/bike so that your knees and hamstrings dont suddenly give out on you one day...and your cardio will help your blood flow to get the most out of your muscle use...

I dont think so, not in my case anyway. I danced almost my entire life - always have had great posture, I gained weight when I went from doing everything to doing nothing.

I use to have HUGE boobies!! Big D cup. Sadly when I lost the weight the big boobies were lost too sad

Women can continue to grow until age 25 - FACT

I just grew within the past year and I lost most of the weight around when I was 22 ( I am now almost 25) so I know that slouching wasn't a factor.
