Sometimes they have ankle straps, sometimes they don't. I have a pink leather pair that don't have ankle straps. They are the most comfortable heel ever. I used to have customers who bought 3 or 4 pairs every year because they were the only heels they could wear all night long and be comfortable. You'd be surprised at how quickly the vultures swoop in! I remember the day after Betsey Johnson wore her "Guys BJ" shirt on ANTM. We got calls about them every single day for about 3 months afterwards.
