Hey,

I was wondering when do you need that stupid passport to cross the USA border, I'm planning on going to Seattle in Jan'06 and I was wondering if a birth certificate and driver's id would still be okay...

They may ask for a passport, but it is not required.

DL and birth certificate is fine.

Unless you are suspicious looking. Then prepare for some harassment. And they will bust your balls like dude said up above.

we fit so many profiles LOL

2 guys, on a day trip only, in a truck with temporary insurance, both unemployed, having known eachother for 2 years, going to everett wa to deliver a bday present.

basically the same id you need to get into clubs.

1= photo ID , DL, BC ID, passport
2= birth cert

passports aren't needed for crossing the usa/canada border for 2 more years
I'm going friday WOOHOO

they told us straightup we fit the profile for smugglers.

they didnt think we were terrorists.

they searched the truck, checked our IDs, asked a million questions (many were the same, just worded differently) and then let us pass. The whole thing only took 45 mins.

you need proof of Canadian citizenship.

That means a birth certificate if you were born here or a passport if you weren't.

You need a passport if you're entering from a 3rd country (Mexico, Bahamas).

I had a birth certificate and DL one time, and they asked for my passport but I didn't have it. They searched my car and held me up for 3 hours!!

It's just cause I'm brown, lol. Fcukin a-holes! They were like asking me stupid **** like, "Whos the president of Canada?" and one homeland security guy held up a CD and asked me what was on it!! ??

What a stupid question! I told him there was music on it and he didn't believe me, he had to go listen to it to make sure.

On my way back I told the Canadian border what happened and they laughed and told me to bring my Passport next time to be safe.

So yeah, I'd take a passport if I were you. But if you're white. You should be ok

lol

People who continue to state incorrect information with no knowledge really piss me off. If you "hear" something why not find out if it's correct? bang head

Do I now need a passport to travel to the United States?
Though passports are the document of choice for travel, Canadian citizens do not currently require a passport to travel to the United States. However, Passport Canada encourages Canadians who are considering travelling outside Canada to obtain a passport, as it is the most widely accepted proof of Canadian identity and citizenship.

On September 1, 2005, the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative proposal was formally submitted for public comment. The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative will require all U.S. citizens, citizens of the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda, and citizens of Canada and Mexico to have a passport or other accepted secure document that establishes the bearer's identity and nationality to enter or re-enter the United States by January 1, 2008.
