Or, better yet, buy some cookbooks. They are better than online recipes because it's easier to browse a cookbook and you will always have them on hand.

get a good cookbook..I really like Professional Cooking by Le Cordon Bleu or Professional Chef by the CIA..both are very basic and teach you how to approach cooking. From Poach baking to braising! ;-)

Cookbooks are crap I find too much measuring and whatnot.

Try getting a steamer. It's great for rice and veggies...and a Wok for making stirfys.

Yumm stirfy, I want some now!

^ Yeah but you can't really learn how to cook propperly without a cookbook that will show you the techniques and food know-how. Steaming, to me, is not knowing how to cook.

The secrets to good cooking are many and varied. I'll let you know a few that I think are really important.

Fresh ingredients.
HELLO garlic and onions
Extra virgin olive oil
NEVER use margerine. Butter is better
Try not to buy too much pre-packaged crap your meals will taste better for it.
Get a really sharp knife
Seperate chopping boards for meat and veggies. Bleach your meat board regularly. (say no to poisoning your guests)
Serve salad with every meal.
When cooking a large meal for friends or family, always insist they bring ou a bottle of your favorite wine. (Cooking is more fun buzzed but be careful with your knife!)

Happy cooking! smile

Lol Karmattack is always on the defence.

Seeing as he didn't SPECIFY what type of cooking he wanted to do, I made a suggestion on a tecnique.

Yeah but you can't really learn how to cook propperly without a cookbook that will show you the techniques and food know-how.

I've never read a cookbook in my life, and make awesome food and dishes.

I find it funny that just because I said cook books are crap you get defensive.

Cookbooks are amazing. I'm addicted to recipe sites but there is nothing like flipping through a cookbook to get some ideas. On a side note, I think I should invest in one of the cookbooks Caffy mentioned. I'm totally missing some of my basics.

Hey listen, coldhardcash, most important thing is a clean oven.

So here's what you do:. Open the oven, crouch down and stick your head all the way in.

Just to get a good look at anything that might need cleaning.

Then reach up and turn on the gas FULL.

Cause you want to make sure the gas works.

Best to leave it on for at least three or four minutes, while keeping your head in the oven during that time to inspect cleanliness.

After that, the rest is easy. smile
