Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions...

My employer's sick policy is 6 days or less per year. blank stare Last year my son was in the hospital, so I went over my 6 days allowed. My Manager wrote in my review that I needed to "improve" on my attendance. angry She said I needed to have a "back up plan" for when my son is sick. Which IMO is straight up bullshiat. bang head
Anyways... I have not used any sick days this year. big grin My son is sick again sad, so I took him with me to work today. He slept the whole time at my desk and did not cry once. My Manager called me into her office about four hours into the day and said I needed to take my son home and that bringing him to work was not what she meant by back up plan. bang head

Do you have any suggestions on what a good back up plan might be?

This is one of the biggest gripes in regards to working in America. Practically all business expect people to leave their kids stranded when they have sick kids at home. Depending on where you work and what their policies are would depend on what you can do. Have you thought about a nanny though?

a nanny? yes, I have thought bout it... but I feel I run a greater risk of them being sick, then my son. I will check into this tho! wink

Also, the lady that watches my son is amazing!!! The law just says if your child has a fever, he can not go to daycare.

Someone at my work has used Virginia Mason's "sick kid" daycare that's for people who have to work and have a sick kid that cannot attend daycare. Good luck.

adam wink hehe... my dog is kinda scary round kids at first too!

new job? yeah, I almost quit the day I had my review... I started there was I was 17 yrs old, got promoted three times, then quit 4 1/2 yrs later. I worked at 2 dif companies in the year and a half I was gone. They hired me back when I was 5 months pregnant. SO... if I look for another job, I don't think I am very marketable because of the job jumping.

That is really hard to deal with!!! Sorry to hear they are being so hard on you. Do you have any family or friends close by who you could talk to about this and ask them to be a emergency back up person? Maybe a friend who is a stay at home mom?

Virginia Mason's "sick kid" daycare

thank you for the info. smile I called and they only take kids over 12 months. I will def use them in 8 months tho!!! big grin

drea- All of my close friends/family work, go to school or live outa state... but I may ask my big sis if she could skip school on the days he is sick. The only prob is that I don't really like/trust her parenting/baby-sitting skills. hmmmmmmm

kinda frusterating...

sad I will talk with my co-worker Kari when she gets back and ask her if she knows of any resources. Her baby has been sick a lot and she might know of something. smile She should be back in a few days I think. smile

how come your son is sick all the time?

i think this is the most RETARDED policy in the work place. Obviously your manager does not have kids. Do they give you personal days on top of your sick days?? Doesn't a doctors note account for anything??

Check with Children's Hospital also. I think I heard something about them providing a daycare service. http://www.seattlechildrens.org/

Well thats BS you gota be so paranoid about taking a day off from work that you had to bring the kid with you.

Its sad that it has gotten to the point that Americans as a society have put work above children now. Seems like people are forced to fit family around work, instead of work around family.

Thanks Drea! You're awesome!!!

how come your son is sick all the time? I don't know... I breastfeed, eat healthy; take good prenatal and other supplements. He got RSV two months ago, then just got a cold.

i think this is the most RETARDED policy in the work place. Obviously your manager does not have kids. The stupid thing is that she does have kids. She is just enforcing the corporate policies to the T. Seems like she does not leave room for individual circumstances.

Do they give you personal days on top of your sick days?? Yep and the eff'd up thing is I used four vacation days while he was sick and in the hospital. And I am hourly, so they didn't even pay the three sick days I went over. That is why the whole thing is B.S.

Doesn't a doctors note account for anything?? Apparently not, cuz I provided one for every single day I was out.

What about daddy?

Daddy makes almost 2x what I make. But I did talk to him today and the next "sick" day, he is going to stay home.

awww the things we have to put into consideration when we get knocked up...

awwww... leave it to you to say something like this.

Chad... Word! It def makes me feel like they want me to put my job first.

I am not going to be popular on this issue.....

I do agree that Vacation and PTO/ Sick leave should be albe to be used for taking care of your young one.

But look at it from a managers standpoint. Work is not getting done. I think your manager could be a little more tactfull, but he/she does have a point. You should have a back-up plan incase something like this does happen.
