Just came across this site called Skin Deep. ,
http://www.ewg.org/reports/skindeep/?key=nosign It is a database of the most popular every day beauty products and how toxic or safe each is - as the industry is largely unregulated it's a good idea to look up your products . I found it surprising how products listed as "natural" rank as the worst.

http://www.ewg.org/reports/skindeep/?key=nosign

Info on the site:

Skin Deep is a personal care product safety guide with in-depth information on 14,841 products - 1,054 brands of lotion, lip balm, deodorant, sunscreen and other popular products - and the 7,093 ingredients that form them. With its core of 37 toxicity and regulatory databases, Skin Deep provides safety ratings and brand-by-brand comparisons that can help consumers choose safer products.

Brilliant Brunette Shampoo:

Classified as toxic
Ingredient(s) not assessed for safety
Reproductive/developmental toxicity

.. that's not too cool.

Please dont throw any of your makeup or skin care out. This evidence of "danger from cosmetics" is wayyy over the top.

Mosca: True - there are bigger risks out there than creams, but keep in mind we are using these products every day directly onto the body - how often do you slather on bleach for example?

This gives them a lot more time to build up in your system. I'll never give up wearing makeup or having bubblebaths, but why choose toxic products when there are other options?

I can vouch for that, Unbound. It burnt off chunks of my hair and over a year later, it has still not grown back properly.

pj2002, how can you care about your baby, if you don't even care about yourself?

^ ^ ^ It burnt off chunks of you hair?!?! Jesus. Did you leave it on for a long time? That's crazy!

^nope, I washed it out right away, and my scalp was itchy for a few days. That's when I noticed the missing chunks of hair. I get my hair stylist to inspect the areas for me every month, but she can't figure out why it's growing back so slowly. I'm so self-consious tying my hair back nowadays.

Have you been to a doctor? I'm pretty sure that you can have cortisone injections to stimulate regrowth.

I use very good organic products for myself, I'm just not going to go over the top with it. But my baby is entirely different, I wouldn't want to know that the products I chose to use on her will harm her.

anything you use on your body or food you eat will be carried onto your baby while your pregnant and through your breast milk afterwards.

Interesting thread, bookmarked.

SFUgirl I find your story totally believeable, I had a very bad experience with that product as well and strongly recommend against it to anyone I hear showing an interest in it. Very disappointing.

my step sister told me the other day that one day she had brocoli and actually saw bits of brocoli in her infants poop. she only breast feeds him. crazy huh?

unless your step sister was squirting chunks of brocoli through her nipples and into her baby's mouth.....that's impossible.

and i don't think it's very likely to shoot bits of of veggies through your tits, but then again, i don't have tits, and i've never tried.

what the f()ck do i know.
