today was a rough one, went out for a business lunch and i was tempted to give in..

i can see how hard it would be to dine out when your vegetarian...there's not much out there.

I had a garden burger with sauteed mushroom and onions and smothered the bastard in franks hot sauce. was edible. beer helped.

i need better sources of protein besides shakes and eggs....help meeeeeee

Protein sources:

Tofu
Veggie dogs
Veggie burgers
Cheese (unless you are going vegan)
Eggs

There are tons of options out there for veggies - just request no meat in your dishes when dining out...

And fish... technically, they aren't considered "meat"... so you could get away with it.

I'm a vegetarian and I love the way I feel since becoming one and how much energy I have. I never meant to become a vegetarian until I realized I had been for months.

The secret is to make sure you eat a good mixture of foods. I usually have cereal with yogurt, almonds and crasins in the morning, and a fruit shake with a banana, an orange, a small handful of berries, and a small chunk of tofu (If I skip the yogurt and cereal). After that make sure to eat 4-5 small meals a day.

Stir fries, pasta, (tofu chopped small is excellent in tomato sauce), curries, salads, and any variety of veggie casseroles make excellent dinners. Soups are also really good, and sushi is a staple to my diet.

God luck smile

you are freakishly obsessed with protein. relax man, cutting down to 16 protein shakes a day will suffice.

I was a vegetarian for 5+ years. I gained weight rather than losing it, though.

Low protein, low iron, low vit. B and folic acid.

I don't eat beef or pork, but i have started eating chicken and turkey again.

I think if i were to go veg again, I'd be more aware of my omega's and my amino acids.

yes

Protein shakes aren't the only way for vegetarians to get protein btw. Do more research into it, and you'll find out that you can cross grains, beans, nuts, and veggies to get complete aminos.

I've been vegetarian for three years without any problems. I don't stress about protein at all. If you eat a variety of things (I've actually found that my diet is a lot more varied now) you will be fine. For instance, the cottage cheese you had for lunch likely had as much protein in it as you'd need for the day.

Downsides to being a vegetarian:
After a while the smell of cooking red meat is thoroughly sickening.
People are really annoying when they find out you are vegetarian and ask a lot stupid questions.
Travelling in the southern states is very difficult.
If you accidentally eat red meat, it feels as though you've eaten a pound of dirt.

I think that about covers it for me.

That Yves vegetarian ground beef is really good.
My bestfriend and my roommate are both vegetarians so I tend to use a lot of Yves products when I cook.

I don't really understand not eating meat for 'health reasons', because it's a hell of a lot more difficult to get your protein elsewhere.

Not really... lots of other foods have protein that aren't 'meat'. Nuts, beans, dairy, soy products... I don't believe in getting all my protein from shakes, drinks, bars cuz the majority of anything should come from the natural foods, directly - but have the shakes, drinks, bars, pills in addition to supplement what your body can't get enough. I've recently increas'd my protein intake cuz I want to feed my muscles some size, and even though I get sufficient from food I eat, I take an extra bit from a drink cuz it's hard for me to put that much more food into my mouth cuz I feel full all the time, then.

I was born vegetarian... but I've only incorporated lean chicken into my diet in the past few years, so I consider myself 99.9% vegetarian cuz I have chicken the odd occassion.

I think it gets easier over time like anything else when you cut out something out of yer diet gradually rather than cold turkey'ing it. I'm sure it's more difficult when it's something you were rais'd on.

My vegetarian meals are yummy... I make the best damn'd salads around... I make the best vegetarian stirfry that includes egg whites... in love
