I work with Persians from Iran on a news affairs show on City TV. One of the producers who is not gay, did a documentary on transexuals. He was threatened with death and had to leave the country as a refugee.

actually, no one in here has said that all saudis are barbaric. the saud government, on the other hand, is quite barbaric and, given the lack of any significant dissent to the royal family, unlike in, say, iran, where students not only routinely protest the ruling mullahs but the democratically elected figurehead president, it raises serious questions about the extent to which ordinary saudis are genuinely outraged by these types of incidents. but you can take solace from the fact that your buddy dragdiva doesn't generalize about all saudis and, instead, ignores what happens in saudi arabia, preferring to use it as a platform to discuss the supposed barbarity of islam per se, and, in particular, iran and iranians, whose people overwhelmingly reject this kind of brutality- unlike, it would seem, the majority of saudis.

i'm not sure that the same could not be said for almost any other religion.
