it's obvious that, unlike the militants, the US led coalition and NATO do not target civilians, but tell that to the people who have lost their family and friends.
NATO is not doing enough to reduce civilian casualties.

Accurate figures for civilian death tolls are hard to come by in Afghanistan, where militants often wear civilian dress and seek shelter in villagers homes. Furthermore, after a quarter of a century of civil war and conflict, it is not unusual for Afghans to have weapons in their homes.
Much of the violence takes place in remote areas that are too far or too dangerous for independent observers or journalists to reach for verification of the reports.
And those two paragraphs completely destroy any credibility of the figures in the report.
I'm now of the opinion we should just let all of these ****ed backwards (Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran etc) countries fight it out between themselves in the same way they have in the past.
I would just make it clear to these groups, any future attacks to our countries would be met with a overwhelming force against their groups and or supporters. The only way to keep them away is to unleash devastating attacks for every aggresive act towards us.

- what you see in iraq now was not happening before the US attack.
- there is no in fighting in iran
- afghanistan is the only country that has had in fighting before the US attack
perhaps you need to update your backwards information on the region before making misinformed comments.

In an ideal world, I would love it if we could leave the region alone. Unfortunately our energy economy is one that is almost entirely run on fossil fuels, so we are utterly dependent on Middle East oil. I'll be glad when we find an alternate energy source(s) and begin switching over, so we (the West) can leave the Middle East alone. It's pretty shameful what has happened in Iraq, Iran and other countries there because of Western meddling - we shouldn't take full responsibility, but we do have some culpability in the "backwards" nature of this region.

Brilliant mythos, more condescending behaviour. You do the same thing in every thread to any poster who says something that doesn't confirm to you biased and often ridiculous views.
It always amuses me how you are always right. I have been reading some of the other recent threads where you have stated categorically the other posters are incorrect.
As for sketchy, he gets ignored when he is so obviously trolling to try and create a irate response. Sketchy my man you need to improve your trolling skills.

the afghan war is a sham and a diversion with the bush admin spinning that theres armed terrorists there since theres always been mujahadeen there for ages.. they even fought the russians
canada needs to stop being duped by the us and should get the troops out of there
why else isnt there a major push by the us armed forces if they REALLY attacked america on 9/11
remember 9/11 was a bunch of saudis.. financed and puppeted by us secret service in order to start a war with saddam

back seat drivers.
"If I was driving we would be there by now"
NATO forces try to use technology and tactics to minimize civilian casualties at the least risk to themselves.
Opposition forces use lower technology weapons available to them specifically to maximize casualties military or civilian.
Accordingly, the ratio should be higher by the opposition since they supposedly have less regard to the local populous as pointed out by Mythos . However since the opposition masquerades as civilians and uses civilian domociles and buildings it stands to reason the data is not very representative.

the number 1 objective for the coalition forces should be to win the hearts of the afghan people. it shouldn't be to kill taleban with firepower.
when civilians are killed, many steps are taken the wrong way and many more oppositions are created.

That is true, winning the hearts and minds of the people , rebuilding the nation and providing security is very difficult.
Particularly when another force is doing everything it can to prevent it. You are equally correct that some of the opposition are dissatisfied civilians perhaps that lost loved ones.
Thus you can appreciate how difficut it is to determine civilian from combatant.
