I like the bag, the cut, the size... BUT... I have a problem carrying around a bag that has the brand name as the basis for the design... I'm talking about the large "C" all over everything Coach... just like the LV ones... I liked several of their bags but could not bring myself to carry one that has LV all over it...
I feel like I'm paying the design house so I can advertise for them...
True that many of the higher end brands have higher quality, but I'd rather carry one that has a subtle hint of the brand, such as the clasp or a small emblem...
Does anyone else feel this way? Do you ever just not buy something because you feel kind of "used" by the design house for free advertising?

Nah I like them...LV is ugly IMO and I dont think Coach looks the same at all (at least not in most cases). The signature stuff is cute but I wouldnt use it every day.

^Coach is NOT comparable to LV...period.

No, it's not... it's the concept of having a brand name splattered all over an item you're carrying... no different than wearing a t-shirt that says Nike or wearing a baseball cap that says Gucci.
The point is, when you wear that, you're literally advertising that brand and paying to do so.
If I'm driving a particular make of car, I would expect that it has an emblem on it to show its brand. But I would expect the car itself and its style to exemplify its name. I wouldn't expect it to be covered in the make's logo.
So why are we okay with it with handbags?

If I'm wearing a baseball cap or jersey that says "Canucks", it's a deliberate choice to advertise I am a fan of a certain team. If I'm carrying a handbag that says Coach all over it... well... ______________ someone else fill in the blank... what am I missing?
I'm willing to change my view if someone can explain it to me... explain to me why someone is willing to pay to advertise...

I realize that LV may be "higher class" but I buy what I like and I dont like LV.

no offense to anyone, but $400 for jaquard fabric? if it were leather, maybe. But the shape is pretty nice.

agree with wolfchick on this one. But then for some people brands mean a lot. Personally, i look at what is was made from (preferably good quality leather) and where it was made (definitely not China, preferably Italy).
The more understated the brand logo, the better.

Ah HA! Going off-topic
Corporate Branding and Branding Identity is very important.
Unfortunately, "most" of us are suckers.
Corporations are laughing to the bank.
It's a vicious cycle.

It's good to have the design cause then people automatically can assume that you are very rich or have a very rich boyfriend.

I agree with both wolfchick and selezneva, if I'm going to pay more for a bag it's for the quality of the bag and the materials, ie., leather made from Italy. I don't care to pay just for the name which is basically why a bag that's made from jaquard fabric costs so much, because it's Coach.

to be honest im not the biggest fan of anything thats completely branded ... the few other purses i have from them are just leather ones with no branding other than their signature clasp... i just fell in love with this one ... and the C's i dont mind that much ...
other than that all my coach purses have lasted years ... the first one i got i've had for 8 years and its still in great shape .. compared to purses you buy at aldo for 70$ or so and they fall apart after a season... im not very easy on my purses and I put a lot of stuff in them ... my carly one holds my laptop!
if I could find a store that sells good quality purses for less I would buy them...
One other thing that really pisses me off is that the dollar is exactly the same now so why are brand name stores still charging more in canada?
the carly purse at the Coach store on burrard is 460 where as in the states is 398 ... its almost worth to drive over the border to buy it !

PS i absolutely DESPISE the LV print ... the only LV bag i have is just plain leather but its not any better than coach and costs about 5 times more!
