Apprentice. Bring me a resume and you will be on the floor in less time and with no student loan. You actually get paid instead. We have 2 salons with a third opening in January and we need apprentices.

If that doesn't appeal to you, then look at Casablancas. Fairly cheap and over in 6 months.

Be careful with Blanche. They have a bad rep. Investigate a few others.

VCC is where i went. I was also a fulltime assistant before i decided to go to school and get my license, so i had lots of hands on experience to begin with. I am very happy with my schooling. The course was $7000 and the kit approx $1100. The 10 months flew by, and now a year and a half later, im a full time stylist with a growing clientele in a busy salon. When i was assisting, everyone there recomended VCC, and they were not wrong.

^^ VCC is the best .
Few things to keep in mind:
1. You have to attend class from 8-3
2. You have to do theory as well.
3. Final exam (You need to arrange a model for your haircut)

But overall VCC is the best college and their price is also the same as other places.

$12,600 ? I think my UBC degree came to about as much.

Is being a hairdresser so lucrative you can justify this cost?

thanks guys, VCC sounds like the most reasonable option. I'll see if I can convince my sister to reconsider her first choice (Blanche).

Just speaking as an educator, VCC is a wise choice. From what I have heard from former students, Blanche has no library, no student services, no formal appeals policy, fails to deliver grades in a timely fashion, has no recreational facilities, and is privately owned, without any form of board of directors or accountability. VCC is an established institution with all of these safeguards and facilities in place.

My hair dresser just told me that it doesn't really matter where you go to school - they teach basically the same techniques at all of them. What really matters is where you get in and get your hands on experience after you've taken the course. That is what sets your background and what employers will look at. It's what you do with your schooling, not where you attend school.
