The RCMP's allegiance is to their handlers back in Ottawa. That is a big part of the problem.

The police don't deserve the benefit of the doubt. They have other means at their disposal rather than the Taser. They were being lazy and didn't want to get their noses dirty. They aren't necessarily to blame though. It's probably company policy to use poor judgment and take the easy way out.

Apparently this is not the case at YVR.

Police have said repeatedly that there were only three RCMP officers involved in the incident, but the video shows four men in RCMP uniforms.

Police enter the secure area with no problems and can be seen with Dziekanski standing calmly talking with officers.

RCMP officers have also said police did not use pepper spray because of the large number of people at the airport at the time. But the video shows Dziekanski standing alone with the four officers in an otherwise empty area, which is separated from the public area by a thick glass wall.




But retired superintendent Ron Foyle, a 33-year veteran of the Vancouver police who saw the video tape, said he didn't know "why it ever became a police incident."

"It didn't seem that he made any threatening gestures towards them," Foyle said.

Nope, I once spent over two hours with a little Hungarian lady who only had an address in Kelowna and 20 bucks on her looking for a translator. In the end I had to leave her with a Chinese airport worker who barely spoke English.

Those police behaved SHAMEFULLY and airport workers should have helped the man hours before the situation escalated.

4 trained cops couldnt use their training to talk to the guy for more then 29 seconds before using this stupid device? They (4 trained cops) couldnt take him into custody without using this stupid device?

He might have thrown a few items- not at anyone but out of frustration. I am so appauled at the LAZINESS of our police force.

I could see if he was armed, or lunged or used force on them first. But he didnt- The cops didnt use any sort of training to deal with this person. They took the easy way out and that could have very well been you..
