Did anyone go out of their way to make you feel special? What made you smile today?
I received a letter from the Tooth Fairy. Yesterday, a child's tooth fell out and even though we wrapped it in paper towel, the tooth ended up lost. I calmed down the crying child by writing a quick note to the Tooth Fairy, explaining what had happened. As a teacher, things like this are a regular part of my day. What I didn't expect, was a hand-delivered thank you note from the parent of a child who is not even in my class.

and fyi sfugirl... I had to email the tooth fairy once when she missed a tooth while they were at their dad's. She handled her business properly that night. I did it once again when the absolute worst happened and my son swallowed his tooth with his pizza. Again, she was on it.
I thought I was genius for thinking of something like that for my own kid... I can appreciate how the child's mom felt that you cared enough to do that for. I just decided you are awesome btw.

The tooth fairy did not visit my house.
Our parents just took pictures and took us out for popcorn or ice cream at the snack bar.

We didn't believe in Santa either.
Just Jesus.

nuh uh. I grew up with teachers. some teachers are a special breed that go above and beyond (with ease and do not know it) and they get remembered. you are one of them.
my mom was a school secretary that broke rules to get involved with student leadership... she's famous here for it. I know these things.

Someone I didn't even know handed me a Starbucks gift card and said "Merry Christmas" before I could even say Thank You they were gone!

heh...well, they generally don't know I'm doing it. The ones who do usually don't care.

Actually, I thought of something that kinda touched my day today...just people smiling and saying hello in my neighbourhood. I'm not sure if it's because people are starting to know me or if it's the trickle-effect of me saying hey at most of the people I pass on the street, but it was weird...all day, all of a sudden the neighbourhood was just a whole lot friendlier.
It was pretty cool.

I used to date a guy on a mission to say hi to everyone on the street. He didn't care what time it was... he'd just smile and say hi. No it wasn't the ghetto... it was Cook St Village... but still... he said hi.

I think that's awesome. It's one of the most fundamental parts of growing a community, I think at least. I've been to so many places where it's just a normal thing, and then come back here and it's like I'm a weirdo for being friendly.

I think it's perfectly acceptable to leave people alone with their thoughts but a hi here and there is kind of nice.
