Yes, seeing something that isn't there is definitely a 'skill' shared by the faithful. Don't sweat it though, humans are meaning seekers, we look for meaning through patterns and associations. Most just aren't able to get past the whole correlation doesn't equal causation argument. Most people don't understand statistics and probability. Most people don't understand the nature of memory and the manner in which it's constructed by our worldview. So, people really only see the world through their own eyes, unable to step outside themselves and be objective. The end result is a whole lot of goofy beliefs.

atheism is just another way for spoiled brats (shmoove_cwiminal) to rebel against mommy and daddy.

Lol.
Don't be sour because your parents brought you up believing in fairies and leprechauns. Break out of that silly, superstitious worldview.
Do some learning.

what if i believed music was a form of spirituality and that great artists channel a higher power, regardless of whether they are atheists or not.
it's not silly or superstitious to appreciate music, but one's rationalization could be considered as such by people with little appreciation of spirituality at all.
and one can see this best by which religions and nations choose the law of Hamurabi or modern English law with regard to the rights of others.
however, atheism is still a subset of religion because in declaring there is no God, one must first assume that there is a God, but rationalize Him away through the magical thinking of logic.

Actually, I'd argue that religion is more egocentric because it puts some sort of divine value on humanity and excludes non-believers.

lol, Sketchy's never accepted that argument. It's too logical for fantasy boy to handle.

actually the brain is well known for evolving from magickal thinking as a child to something more sophisticated like science, except during periods of stress where regression is observed.
overall though, boogeymen under the bed are externalized into stuff that led to Auschwitz and online bullying.
i will object strongly to the 'all religions are egocentric' argument.
i mean, there is one "religion" that emphasizes control over the ego to prevent much of the challenges the monotheistic religions and the fanatical branches of both Hinduism: Buddhism.
