I want to get my makeup done for a function coming up. I've had it done before at Mac and at Shu Uemura. Both were really good experiences.

I'm thinking of going to Mac again simply because it's close to the venue and I can buy a few things I use regularly to offset the cost. (I think they charge you somewhere around $50 but you can use it as a credit to buy product).

I know the Mac girls usually (ok always) look overly made up and I definetley don't want that, I'm looking for naturally gorgeous wink I've heard that if you work for Mac it's policy that you wear literally a ton of makeup and so I know that that's not all of the girls preference.

Again, I'm going to be going straight from the makeup counter to the venue so I won't be able to wash my face and redo my makeup if I end up looking like a clown. With this in mind, would any of you gals recommend another counter (in say, The Bay) or do you think I'm pretty safe with Mac?

MAC is pretty safe. I have gotten make up done there quite a few times for weddings and a photo shoot. Every time I went there, I ended up looking more Cover Girl than MAC girl. Just be honest about what you want, and I'm sure that they will provide you with good service.

You read that as me rippin on the Mac girls? Really? As I said, I was told it's Mac policy that they HAVE to wear something along the lines of: primer, coverup, foundation, blush, lipstick, eyeliner and a minimum of 3 shadows everyday. That's alot of makeup for everyday wear. I'm not saying they look bad necessarily... it's just not daytime makeup and not the look I'm going for that particular night.

And you're vehemently defending Mac girls because?

Just to play devil's advocate....you can wear that much makeup in the day and not be inappropriate. It depends on the shades, formulas, and application techniques.

But ya, I've *almost* always been successful at MAC. The one time it didn't turn out well was for Halloween so that doesn't really count.

If you're worried why don't you book a trial application with the same person you book with on the day of the function? Like you said, at MAC you can buy product with the fee, so you don't lose anything!

Anyone know why Robson Mac doesn't normally let you credit the cost of your makeover and charges more than any of the other locations?

If I remember correctly, the Canada MAC policy is that at Pro stores, you can't redeem the value in products when you get a makeover. I'm not sure why but I think it's because the people that work there have taken master classes or something? So you are generally getting better artists there, I believe. I think the Robson is the Pro location in Vancouver, if it's still the same. smile

Good luck! Post some pics of your makeover. smile

Oh sweet! My gf got me an appointment at the Robson Mac and I guess they have a special on that day so I can actually redeem the value in product. I'll for sure post a pic.

Not at all. LOL... the master classes that are offered from time to time are not to do with the make up applications. The booked applications there are $55 cuz it's one of the services that are offered and are done in the private paid for area that is not in public view.

It's part of the MAC dress code to wear make up. It's the nature of the business and you have to wear make up that is well applied and the looks that are designed for whatever the current launch is. The make up products you mentioned is not a lot of make up at all, when you actually use them... those are products you would be using towards a complete look (even though you missed a few) but granted that you know what you're doing and you apply it well.. it's not a lot of make up at all.

I think you would be better off asking for a specific artist.

Miss Rani, do you still work for MAC? You are a good listener.

Hahaha!! Awwwww... no, I'm not with them anymore. I'm too busy with my career that I couldn't work them into my schedule. I now just do freelance and pick up the odd job when I feel like and can do so!

^ ^ ^ For me, someone who only really wears mascara & mineral coverup... that is a lot of makeup for everyday wear.

^ ^ We've got our appointments for Friday, I'm not really worried about it... will be fun smile
