I thought this would be a good start to the 2008 year.

The Mike Gillis has done nothing but improve our 4th line with a couple of minor signings.

We have missed the boat on many UFAs so far.

Naslund has signed with the Rangers. Which pretty much assures us Sundin will not be here.

We now have FOUR holes on our top two lines.

Watch Naslund light it up in New York. Offensive style of play in a more offensive conference.

At this point, I really think the Nucks should unload Luongo for a sh1t load of young players/picks. They have NO USE for his services.

This is team is not shaping up for 08-09.

I remember the talks of, "oh I can't wait for Naslund and Mo's contracts to be up, woohoo, 10 million in extra cap space!" I was one of them.

We bring in a GM with NO EXPERIENCE who seems more or less blackballed and can't make a deal to save his life. Watching guys like Rolston, Brunnette, Satan, Huselius, Ryder, Tucker etc.

We do nothing to improve our poor scoring situation. We have a great 3rd and 4th line.

Yippie.

I am getting REALLY nervous. I sense a few "Messier" years coming on. A team with no identity, no hope.

Not a pay cut, it is what he is worth. He left to get out of the fishbowl that is Vancouver hockey. And also for a chance to win. He would have stayed if Gillis brought in some talent, which he failed to do. IMHO.

Now, will Jagr re-sign? He made it clear on his 2nd last game that he would most likely retire.....

With the addition of Naslund, will there be cap space for jagr, & if so, will he re-sign w/ the rangers?

Didn't Tom Renney coach Naslund here for a bit too?

Rangers said they are not offering Jagr a deal.

Yes Nazzy played here under Renny.

Blow it up, deal Luongo for essentially a young top line. And pray that Corey Schnieder is the real deal.

At the end of the day. Nonis left this team with Vigneualt and little to no assets to make anything happen. It was Nonis that created this. A team with no scoring makes it even harded to attract talented scorers on the free agent market. I don't buy this whole Gillis is blackballed thing. Good players want to know that other good players are going to be there.

It didn't happen and now there are basically no top tier players left to be signed. They have to be traded for, but the Canucks have very little in the way of assets.

Trading Luongo and hoping Corey Schneider can pan out would be the only way to go. Unless Nonis can somehow make some moves and signings for the missing four 1st and 2nd liners.

Luongo must be cringing at how this offseason is taking shape. Florida all over again.

Could we not have signed Naslund, Brian Rolston, Erik Cole, Nik Zherdev, Miro Satan or whoever to form a 1st/2nd line? Its like the whole outlook of the next few years of the franchise hung on something that seems so basic as that....

I goto Canucks games to cheer for the visitors and to laugh at the homers. Face it, every season is a coulda shoulda woulda with this franchise.

Dan Boyle who agreed to waive his NTC to come to Vancouver (among other teams) has just signed agreeing to be traded to the Sharks.

Another one bites the dust.

2008/2009 will be a great season whether the Canucks have a roster or not, strictly because the Leafs are in town.
That will get the ticket sales they need.

Could it be true that we really have nothing to be all that mad at Gillis for?

And really our team right now is not looking a whole lot worse that the one we iced last year. If we do absolutely nothing.

Sedin-Sedin-Pyatt
Raymond-Welwood-Grabner
Burrows-Kesler-Pettinger
Hordichuk-Johnson-Brown

Is better or not much worse than

Sedin-Sedin-Pyatt
Naslund-Shannon-Raymond
Cooke-Kesler-Burrows
Cowan-Ritchie-Isbister

Also im sure Gillis is not done so we should still see improvements. Also we shouldn't have as many injuries to D-men this year. So really our team should be better than last years just the way it is now.

Yeah Naslund had 25 goals, but it was almost despite himself. Many rebound goals on the PP and crap like that. 1/20 in the shootout or whatever he was didn't help.

I am worried, really worried, but at the end of the day, its not AS BAD as it seems.

Heck, if we just move all the lines up one notch. i.e. Kesler gets 1st or 2nd line minutes.... If Raymond can improve and Hansen is ready, they can form a "Kid" third line.

Our fourth line is actually a REAL 4th line now, with the #1 shot blocker in the NHL last year for the PK and a decent fighter in Hordichuk. These guys MUST be seen as on improvement to Richie, Cowan and Isbister....

I am not ready to fold the tent yet, but it will be right down to the wire to make the playoffs. Or to not finish dead last. LOL

Entering my 25th season as a fan, I wouldn't expect anything less. big grin

Steve Bernier signed with the Canucks. Big right handed shot. 6'2" 225. 23 years old.

16 goals last year, -1 in San Jose and Buffalo. Former 1st rounder, Canadian kid. For a 2nd and 3rd rounder.

Good stats as a Rookie. 2005-2006 Sharks
GP- G- A-Pts +/-
39 14 13 27 4

Good deal if he can if he can be the new Anson Carter.

(btw, Sabres fans are LOSING IT with anger)

BMo won't be back according to Team1040.

It's gonna be a tough season for both, Toronto and Vancouver. I think it's going to be tougher for Vancouver because the fan support is a lot different than back East. Both Vancouver and Toronto are probably the bottom 2 in their division as well. We all know how many times they play teams in their division....

Anyways, look for the both of them to finish around 10th in each conference.

It's gonna be a tough season to follow.

I can't seem to find an up to date NHL schedule, I's sure they play each other this year at least once, they didn't last.

Ever since I came here i have been anxiously awaiting this season because its their (the Leafs) first time here in 4 years.
you could be right about the 10th in the conference finishes for both clubs, but I have a feeling Cujo being back in Blue and White will add a little spark to the team and maybe bag a playoff spot for a change.

The Canucks will be in a deep retooling in 08-09,especially up front. That means no playoffs in GM Place next spring.

The Canucks parade for 2008-2009 is going down Homerscansukacok Street, hanging a right on Neverwinacup Avenue and finishing on Bottomofthebasement Boulevard.

In other words it's just going around East Walley Ring Road in Slurrey.
