protesting usually fails because most of the time protesters are self obsessed losers who just want to bitch and whine about things that aren't their business, things that they want someone else to do something about so they don't have too, or represent some minority opinion that no one cares about.
but sometimes it works; gandhi, usa civil rights movement. but those people were actually fighting for something real and important to themselves... not like the flunkies who gather at the art gallery on sunday morning for the cause of the week.

the biggest difference i see between the true protesters and the wannabe squeegee kids that populate most local demonstrations, is the fact that all of the ppl mentioned (Gandhi, MLKJ, Tibetans, etc.) were/are perfectly willing to die for the cause. if your cause isn't something you'd be willing to die to change, sit back down on the curb till the next red light, you're just whining.

Protests mean arrests, held without bail, questioning up the ying-yang and possibly inclusion on some terrorist list somewhere...who want's that?
