Maybe someone out there on CV can answer this, When you got laid off work, or whatever and needed "pogey" It was always called unemployment insurance. Thats when it was easy to get. Now its employment insurance, and is harder to access. I heard that the Goverment has 57 billion dollars for this insurance, So how come its hard to get. If An autoworker has had a job for 30 years, and loses his job due to cuts, he has no problem getting it. But they will only give it to him for so long. I think. On the other hand if Jane is a job hopper, or cant keep jobs, hates her boss whatever, and quits, she is not eligible, unless she has a good damn good reason. Ei or UI is not a form of welfare, it is money you have invested for a "just in case" job loss. What I am trying to get at really is, since UI was renamed EI has it become harder, Does anyone here have first hand knowledge by applying for it?

You can't claim ei if you quit. Claim your sick. So saying your sick, and can't work, will entitle you. But you also have to see a doctor regularly. It can be mental health or physical whatever.

Another way of getting benifits is getting laid off due to shortage of work

So when an employer writes up your ROE (record of employment) there are certain boxes to check . (Why your not working anymore)

those boxes wil say fired, laid off, illness or injury dismissal, quit etc
