It's a two day bike ride from Vancouver to Seattle this summer. All proceeds go to the BC Cancer Foundation.

Now, I'm a pretty avid cyclist, and my family has a history of cancer. I'd love to do this thing. So I click on the "Register" button and am smacked in the face with this: "Registered Riders commit to raising CA$2,500 for The Ride to Conquer Cancer ".

Are you f'ng kidding me? $2500 per rider? That's ridiculous. I did the Run for the Cure and the Underwear Affair events in the past and only managed to scrape together $500 max. If you ask me, they are going to scare off a lot of potential riders by setting the minimum fundraising level so high.

I'll do the ride if you sponsor me $2000?

I figure I could pull $500 out of my office pretty easy..

It seems ridiculous to me that they would turn away people who wanted to participate, and had $500 to throw in for pledges. Don't they know there's a recession?

I signed up to go to an orientation this past november.

One thing I now know, my body will be incabable of physically completing the 200 km ride, with the pre-existing condition in my right knee, no matter how hard I would have trained and prepared for it.

I'm kinda glad, though, b/c this falls on the same weekend as the 24 hr relay, which will be my 8th yr there.

As far as fundraising goals, keep in mind the majority of teams already registered were registered a few months ago, and many have exceeded the $1k / person mark already.

This isn't a 10K run.

it's a 200 Km ride.

If you chose to sign on for this event, theere should be a greater emphasis on yout personal contribution/ sacrifice in order to get better donor amounts.

Also just keep in mind this is the 1st yr in BC it's being done.

Good luck to all who sign up. smile
