A lot of accessories are rented for a wedding... from wedding/bridal locations. It's the type of thing that makes no sense to buy since you won't ever wear it again. (IF you choose an item that is very wedding-like.) Besides, the phrase "something old, something new, something BORROWED, something blue" kind of gives you "permission" to do it
