Is this some sort of conservation effort, or prelude to bigger utility bills?

The city has subcontracted a company called Neptune to install these meters for free, for a limited time (1 year left). Eventually they will be compulsory and those home owners who don't have them will have to pay for the units and their installation. They also say that households of less than 5 should save money with these meters as the flat rate is set too high.
Problem is there’s no info out there apart from what the city and Neptune are providing so I dunno if I believe them.
The meters themselves are installed on the front lawn, they are apparently quite large and hideous. I want to wait till I have options for a smaller one. I’d like to hear of people are actually saving money with these things.
I guess I just don’t trust the city. What if legislation to make them mandatory takes another 10 years?
I hate making decisions.
And ya …. They say it’s all for conservation, but I’m certain someone is making money here.

Sounds like blackmail. I love baths, and frequently take them. We will not save any money if we install a meter, that's for sure.

I let the water run when I brush my teeth, I also let it run when I do the dishes.

I believe Delta is doing the same thing. My parents have been talking about getting one installed for a while now.
You say "we live in a fcking rain forest" yet every summer we come very close to running out of drinking water.
Its not like they can just take a random lake and turn it into a source for drinking water.
