I'm not usually the kind of person to shill a product, but there's this dog brush called a Furminator. This is the greatest invention ever for dogs that shed. It's really easy to use and removes more hair in one stroke than most brushes take off in minutes of grooming. Plus it's really easy to clean out. It doesn't hurt the dog at all, my lab loves it. They sell for between $60 - $75 in pet stores, but I just bought one off ebay for $30. So worth it.
