Have any of you heard of this cult? I have 2 friends who have recently fallen victim to this guy and i am worried about them. I understand their displeasure with government in general, taxes and whatnot, but who doesn't. This seems very extremist!!

Here's a quote from the troglodytes website

Robs Very Cunning Plan

The Plan is very simple and involves the creation of an actual society with the associated lawful courts and supporting peace officer force. Using fundamentals of law and existing and established rights, we will create a society called The Freeman Society Canada, establish The Canadian Common Corps of Peace Officers, and convene new lawful de jure courts which will be accessible to all and not owned and operated by the law society.

The Society will provide members with a nameable group and also all the basic things that existing de facto governments do such as identification cards, international travel documents and consular support, health care access, banking services, education and housing support, a functioning and accessible justice system, and an accountable and restrained force to keep the peace. With a goal of claiming and homesteading a valley and therein building an environmentally low-impact, mostly self-sustaining, yet high-tech modern village we can demonstrate how easy it is to live in peace and abundance.

When you say "fell victim to", in what way? Losing money, or worse?

aldritty, I sincerely hope your friends listen to your logic and reasoning, instead of emotional rhetoric by this "society".

As for the technixal aspects, would they not have to become a sovereign entitity, like aboriginals etc? How many referendums in Quebec saw that creating a sovereign state/ entity is a time-consuming and costly adventure?

Currently, for a body in BC to be called a "Society", they need to be incorporated as per the the Society Act.

quote:
GENERAL INFORMATION

A society is a not-for-profit organization. Any funds or profits must be used only for purposes of the society itself. Funds or profits cannot be distributed to a member of a society without the member giving appropriate compensation to the society first.

Societies are not required by law to incorporate. However, there are benefits to incorporating. When a society is incorporated, it acquires all of the powers of an individual, as well as an independent existence ** separate and distinct from its members ** and an unlimited life expectancy.

If you have any questions about whether or not to incorporate, you should see a lawyer. Societies are incorporated in B.C. according to the provisions of the Society Act. Copies of the Act and regulations are available from Crown Publications in Victoria at 250 386-4636. Every director and member of a society should read the Society Act and regulations.

By filing the necessary documents and paying the required fees, five or more individuals can form a society.p

it is a shame, and a sham, that they close their "about us" address online with "namaste".

I hope logic and reason wins out for your friends, alldritty.

By fell victim to, i mean:

She is driving around with her newborn son without a drivers license, never has had one.

He is relinquishing his drivers license this week.

They are taking action to remove their names from any and everything.

Not registering their newborn son for anything.
etc, etc.

This is just the beginning and now he's preaching to his friends about it. He and i got into it over the weekend and they left in a huff, haven't spoken since.

just wait until they stop paying taxes, and get their asses hauled into court. then things will get really fun. those interest payments are killer.

I have heard about this not having a license or insurance thing because of some clause in the the Charter written in wagon days regarding the right to travel the country. Anyone that wants to take that route better have a good lawyer, lots of cash and plenty of time.

Not too sure what you mean by too much time on my hands, kimia. If you're monitoring me, wouldn't you fall under the same category?

if you're referring to the amount of posts I do, take the following into account:

Today = day off
Last night = able to be on CV later b/c i didn't have to work today.

my last 50 posts currently track to March 19th. 50 posts in 14 days. That's 3.57 posts/ day.

Of course, as our resident self-admited south-american cocaine user who knows and studies the law, you would be able to deduce that, now wouldn't ya. smile

Stick to white lines - it's the only thing you can legitimately have an opinion about.
