also, i have to wonder how representitive of the people the protesters are. i'm suspicious of painting iranian society as a homogeneous mass that is rallied behind a single political leader. or even a majority of people behind a single leader.

No one is painting anything any way. Go do some research before making ridiculous statements. There was a huge rally in support of Ahmadinejad yesterday as well. No one is claiming that everyone's behidn Mousavi.
The problem is the way and speed the votes were counted. Apparently Mousavi lost in every province including his own where statistics showed the 90% of his province were voting for him. Ballots are not computerized. They are in paper form. The Republic announced the count of 10 million ballots within the first hour of booths' closing. That means 83 000 votes per minute. It's imposible. The final results of 46 million votes were announced the very next day.
People want a transparent voting system where their voices are heard. People dont appreciate their cell phones disconnected, their access to internet eliminated, university students arrested or killed, and their universities trashed.

see, that's exactly what i'm talking about. if a bunch of university students here were protesting, twitting, and sending cell phone movies it wouldn't be because they had a legitimate beef. it would be because they are a bunch of self absorbed, entitled, spoiled brats.
so far the news coverage seems to lack perspective, so i'm suspicious.
i'd like to hear what the andy rooney of iran has to say about all this.

A couple good stories about you drooling during your plane and bus trips should do the the trick.
