There are approximately 119 stores in Vancouver, but if you stretch the search out to include the Lower Mainland there are about 300. Looks like you were a little off, plus minus one or two.

I use the Starbucks counter in Safeway to bypass the lineups at the regular checkstands. Might cost me a muffin or something but well worth it.

I never noticed that there are taps at every starbucks shop which run constantly until I saw a news report about it a couple of months back.. It turns out that 2340 litres of water are wasted at each starbucks each and every day they're open. That adds up to 700,000 litres of water needlessly wasted every day in the lower mainland alone (assuming that there are only 300 shops operating). Next time I'm making my own coffee.

TP: I found the answer after I had asked the question, so I thought I'd share it. I hope you can live with that. Esta you are right, it is to keep spoons and thermometers clean. I imagine it's the only way they can do it. Otherwise they'd do something else, right?
