Is a 24km pedestrian and cycling path system from Science World to New Westminster Quay which officially opens today. It is a virtually flat mostly dedicated path system away from traffic. About 75% of the route is paved, the gravel stretches are sometimes very long so I wouldn't suggest rollerblades (thank christ) it is fairly well marked with signs but be prepared for a learning curve the first time out.

Highlights include East Van, False Creek, Piper Spit at Burnaby Lake, the new Winston CPR Overpass.

There are a couple sketchy roadside bike path parts namely along Winston Street and a small section through the False Creek Industrial Area. It gets kinda hilly in New West, but you can always take the Skytrain back if it is too much.

My usual route is a tad more scenic but I think I will ride the Central Valley Greenway more often just for the lack of ****ing ankle riding rollerbladers and chumps with longboards.

Huzzah!

What I dislike: the name. Central Valley Greenway is a contrived name. There is no Central Valley, and "greenway" is bull****, especially if %75 of it is paved, as the author states.

What I like: the fact that Esta referenced Jaws with his (in parentheses) "thank christ."

Scheider and Shaw are grinning in their graves.

As is Carl Gottlieb, and he isn't even dead!

Hey Chief, I wonder what you would think of the section that goes through the City of Burnaby Recycling Yard.

Me too, as long as it doesn't have too many hills. The more pavement or asphalt the better.

Can't wait to try this, been on a real bike riding kick lately, jumbo slurpee and all

I want to get a new hybrid bike, the pedal crank on mine is all loose and screwed up and makes the chain sprocket fly everywhere

A friend of mine is considering a hybrid. I like my cruiser just fine.

How do you find the lack of gears on the cruisers?

I do like the italian styled ones where you sit up real straight, any girl looks extra pretty on those

Mine is a 3-speed. blush

I have an internal 3-speed hub that came with the bike, a small addition and installation of a shifter and some cables and bam.

Esta, you kind of remind me of Dennis Christopher in Breaking Away. Except you are forty.

ah yes, I have seen some two-speed ones out there

I would love to have an automatic shifter!

There are some automatic 2 speeds out there, a click-back 2 speed is worth looking into. Check out Ride-On on West Broadway and Vine.
