Anyone been to any of the forestry campsites on the west side of Harrison Lake via Morris Valley Road? Grace Lake, Weaver Lake, Wolf Lake, etc.

All are pretty good at this time of the year... Both sides also have Hot tubs that you can go to The west side has the tubs that are built into the side of the mountain overseeing the river.. while east side has wooden barrels that are kind of yucky.... If you have a competent 4x4 I would suggest Sunrise lake... But all in all Wolf Lake is nice and quiet and good for some fishing

I haven't been by Wolf lake in probably 10 years, but I drove into Weaver a couple months back. The road is 2wd accessible, but with a few deep ruts and steep climbs.

It is offroad for about 1.7km off of the logging road.. to get there drive 22-26km down the logging road you make a left hand turn off up mountain.. When I mean a competent 4x4 I would say big tires and a small lift a Stock Jeep can make it.. There is the infamous V-rock that you have to climb in order to get to the lake. But it is well worth it as you get the lake to yourself and there is a nice rope swing there too.. If you search V Rock Harrison on Youtube it will give you an idea of how the obstacle is..

If it's the same lake I'm thinking of, I completely pancaked my muffler on the rock and had to get under my truck and cut the muffler off with a hacksaw blade that wasn't attached to a saw. Good times and a forearm burn/scar to remember it by.
Caught a fish with every cast in my bellyboat.

Thanks for the info guys. Sunrise Lake sounds great. I found pics online...won't work this time (one truck prob won't make it) but I'll definitely check it out another time.
Requiem -- what's the scene at Weaver? Don't want to be near rowdy teenagers or uptight adults. My dogs are not stranger-friendly.

The lake itself is beautiful. The first campground area you come to is pretty bad though, the sites are right on the road and there's no privacy. They're also nowhere near the lake itself. If you follow the road around the lake, there are other sites that are nicer, but the farther you go the hairier the road gets. I remember the last time I went around to the far side of the lake, there were mud pits a couple feet deep to plough through.

As for yahoos, the BC Rec supervisor for the area told me that the whole Harrison area is bozo central. They wreck everything, like the reconditioned site at 20 Mile Bay is gutted regularly. If you want quiet, try the Chilliwack Valley sites like Foley Lake.

Weaver / francis is pretty tough to get to if you want to be right up on the lake... Like requiem said there are river crossings and tough traverses that can be muddy... Wolf lake wouldn't be too bad if you get the site above the lake to the left or to ur right... If your going during the week there isn't many people out there, but once the weekend (specially long weekends) prepare for Combat camping..

So where are the quiet, yet accessible by stock 4x4 sites around the Vancouver area? I haven't done much camping around here, but from what I have experienced it all pretty much sucks.

Unfortunately you're facing the same dilemma that every camper from the lower mainland faces at some point. Anywhere accesible by anything less than a monster truck is prone to being populated by jerkoffs and partiers, and the crazy 4x4 stuff usually has pretty poor campsite facilities. Your best bet is to pick up the Backroads BC road atlases, they have good information on most of the camping spots available. You can also call the BC Rec department and talk to the supervisor for the area you're interested in, they'll be able to give you the lowdown on what kind of people head there.

If you don't mind the drive.. there are some good places in Lillooet such as Gott Creek, Gun Lake, Jones Creek, Lost Lake, and Hope Creek

Req -- yes, this is what I'm finding. I guess it's not surprising given the population of the GVA. Good suggestion re: calling the BC Rec dept. I wouldn't have thought of that.
Cream -- thanks for the suggestions near Lillooet. I was also considering that area.

The Lillooet area or past Pemberton and D'arcy will be MUCH quieter than anywhere up off the Fraser Valley.
Nicer in general as well.

^ Speaking of past Pemberton I will be camping at Birkenhead this coming wknd. I think it should be pretty quiet.
I used to camp at Weaver Lake with my family as a kid/teen. It was pretty quiet too. Camping's much better on weekdays if you can, to avoid the crazy partiers...

You should try the empty lot on Terminal Avenue across from the flea market if you want camping excitement.

the best part about urban camping is that all these really great ppl come along and offer you free hypodermic needles and condoms!

I grew up camping at Birkenhead every summer. I miss the way it used to be, before they widened the access road. It's too civilized now.

Birkenhead is lovely. I am living not too far from there as the crow flies.
