Man 'passed drug packets hidden in body'
A CANADIAN man faces 25 years in jail after allegedly attempting to smuggle heroin through Melbourne Airport.
During a baggage examination at Melbourne International Airport last Tuesday, customs officers became suspicious that Abdalla Haroun, 33, may have been concealing drugs internally.
Australian Federal Police officers took Mr Haroun for a medical examination and he allegedly passed a number of packages containing a white powdered substance that tested positive to heroin.
Mr Haroun, of Toronto, appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday charged with importing a marketable quantity of a border controlled drug and possession of a marketable quantity of a border controlled drug.
He faces up to 25 years in jail if found guilty.
Mr Haroun was remanded in custody to next appear in court on January 25 next year for a committal mention.
