"Cool! I hope they play Ashley Simpson!" Excuse us? Pop queens and Top 40 dance clubbers, move on, please. This is a more sophisticated club, with top local and regional acts, up-and-coming DJs, indie movies -- and apparently a sense of humor. Alchemize rose from the ashes of a string of Over-the-Rhine clubs, but this one has staying power. With two rooms -- each with a distinct vibe -- this hot spot appeals to lounge lizards and dance clubbers. The main room offers a large stage that features live acts or doubles as the main dance floor on DJ nights, when twentysomethings dance to an alternative club beat. The upstairs Blue Lounge offers a more intimate feel for acoustic acts, spoken-word performances, art openings and movie screenings. Slow night? Try your hand at a game of billiards, or test your skill at one of the vintage video games. No one's been able to top our Ms. Pac Man score yet... -- Annie McManis
