This distinctly cozy Cedar Hill enclave features scores of wines by the glass, from the popular supermarket variety to vintages more urbane and obscure. Don't overlook the martinis, however -- although the Fairmount offers the now-ubiquitous menu of flavored, multicolored, novelty martinis, this spot also has a way with the classics, like a plain old super-chilly dirty martini. Of course, it's always a good idea to partake of some nosh before imbibing too heavily. The Fairmount offers an ever-changing array of specials, such as a chilled salmon plate, or go leafy with the Caesar (yes, they will pile on the anchovy filets, making it a take-no-prisoners salty salad experience). This place is packed on weekend evenings, making conversation a challenge, but on weeknights it's truly a relaxing place to drink wine by the fire. -- Marie Andrusewicz
