About Painted Parrot
It's the island-hopping Jimmy Buffet who sings 'changes in latitude, changes in attitude'-- the creed adopted by this Caribbean-inspired bar and restaurant that opened January 2002 in the heart of West Allis. Located across from State Fair Park at the former site of Bunkers, this tropical locale comes alive with bright, painted murals of colorful, sunglass-donning parrots downing cocktails on its walls. As in the islands, rum is the word, and the festive Painted Parrot has the market cornered. Try the Sun Conure made with rum, triple sec, banana liqueur and pineapple juice, or if you're with a date, order the Parrot Beach Drink for Two -- a 32 oz. version of the aforementioned. The drink names alone -- Green Winged Macaw, Intoxicated Granny, Parrot Mambo and Bill Clinton martini -- are enough to peak your curiosity. Offering a modest menu, the fare includes appetizers like chicken wings served with you choice of nuclear, Jamaican or Louisiana hot sauce. Soups, salads, sandwiches and entrees such as coconut chicken strips served with mango salsa also grace the menu. -- Rachael Liska
