About Waitiki Retro Tiki Lounge
With wall-to-wall bars crammed into a pedestrians-only alley, Wall Street Plaza has long been an O-town hotspot. And the addition of Waitiki Retro Tiki Lounge to the scene in the summer of 2004 upped the cool quotient even more. Outfitted in dark carved wood with tiki touches throughout, this Polynesian paradise is packed most nights. Tropical rum drinks with names like 'The Big Surf' and 'Tidal Wave' are the main lure, and the surf music and fusion funk pumped to loud decibel levels is in keeping with the tropical theme. Trendy twenty and thirty-something urbanites frequent the alfresco patio, while the frenetic scene inside surrounding the palm-thatched tiki bar tends to draw more of a college-aged contingent.

Live entertainment is scheduled most nights -- reggae Wednesdays feature 506 Crew, and Thursday's Lizard Lounge theme showcases local impersonators -- but you'll have to fork over a $5 cover charge on weekends (good for admission to the rest of the Wall Street bars, too). In addition to the killer tropical drinks, Waitiki also offers Caribbean-inspired lunch and dinner menus, served till late. Popular dishes include the tuna ceviche with mango and kiwi and the macadamia nut and coconut encrusted chicken. -- Terry Ward
