About Images Bar
This may come as a surprise to those who call Pittsburgh home, but Liberty Avenue recently has garnered acclaim as a late-night playground for seriously oversexed gay and lesbian revelers. This very un-Pittsburgh reputation is entirely thanks to the Showtime drama 'Queer as Folk,' which sets many of its naughtiest scenes within a string of gay bars that line the downtown area's main thoroughfare. Though the real Liberty Avenue is altogether different, on Friday and Saturday nights, Images embodies a bit of that hype.

The space itself, with its modest dance floor, elevated seating area, painted brick walls and clouds of smoke throughout, is nothing remarkable, but the vibe here is welcoming and friendly. Most of the young men and women (mainly men) who pack the place appear to be business professionals with a conservative, clean-cut style. Though Images is hardly the stuff of Hollywood, its authenticity more than makes up for its rough edges. -- Dan Eldridge
